The Project
Nestled along the Jurassic Coast with breath taking views over Weymouth Bay and Lodmoor Nature Reserve, The Loft is an expansive 850sqft penthouse transformed by Olive & Wilde Interiors into a luxurious and memorable short term holiday rental.
Originally a tired 1990s property featuring deep mahogany woodwork, outdated windows, and a worn kitchen (complete with farm yard animal tiles), the goal was clear: transform this flat into a high performing holiday let that felt both elevated and full of personality. Think, scroll stopping interiors, with a mid century twist and grounded in functionality.
No gimmicks. Just a smart, confident redesign that makes guests feel something, the second they open the door.
The Brief
The clients didn’t want a cookie cutter coastal scheme. The views were already doing the heavy lifting, they just needed the interiors to match. Their ask:
Bring the outdoors in
Be bold but not brash
Keep it guest-friendly, memorable, and future-proof
Our design direction embraced rich colour, playful mid century touches, and layered textures that let the landscape sing, without the interiors playing second fiddle.
The Budget ££
Operating within a £30k budget required strategic creativity, ensuring every pound delivered both aesthetic impact and practical functionality. This comprehensive budget covered:
Full decoration and styling
New flooring throughout
New kitchen installation
Upgraded electrics and lighting
Essential updates to bathroom fittings
Stylish furnishings and décor
Compliance with stringent holiday rental fire safety regulations
The Before
When Olive & Wilde first encountered The Loft, it was liveable but markedly outdated. Blown double glazing, dark mahogany doors, and an uninspired kitchen and bathroom urgently needed refreshing. Although structurally unchanged, careful consideration was needed to reinvent this space with maximum visual and experiential appeal.
The Design Stages
Following our established process, the design journey for The Loft included an initial detailed consultation, hand drawn layout sketches, a detailed moodboard, comprehensive electrical and lighting plans, and curated furniture shopping lists. Our approach balanced practical holiday rental needs with quirky aesthetics, ensuring every room would delight guests and leave lasting impressions.
The Results
Despite an ambitious timeline of just 8 weeks to meet the busy Easter season launch, meticulous planning and detailed project management allowed us to complete the transformation smoothly and punctually. The Loft is now a luxurious coastal retreat boasting vibrant mid century flair and expansive sea views that guests can't help but rave about. Today, it's a popular choice on Airbnb and Booking.com, delivering impressive returns for the delighted property owners.
